A Note for Our Crafting Guests
We welcome all self-contained crafts that produce minimal mess or waste—knitting, crocheting, embroidery, quilting by hand, and similar portable projects are perfect for Stitch ‘n Flix!
Please avoid bringing items like glue or materials that could cause a big mess or permanent damage. As a historic theatre built in 1891, the Academy of Music Theatre holds a special place in our community, and we’re committed to preserving its beauty for generations to come.
Thank you for helping us keep this beloved space safe and welcoming for all while enjoying this cozy and creative event!

My name is Millie Howard and I am a senior at Smith College studying Environmental Science & Policy. My passion in making is finding ways to reuse and reduce use through creativity and craftiness! I am always exploring new mediums, dabbling in anything I can get my hands on and making gifts to express my love for friends and family! One way that we can all be more conscious of our consumption is to consider ourselves to be in relationship with our belongings, to recognize that they’re worth caring for and preserving. You can see the progression of time in this pair of pants, as the rips have grown and the need for more repairs and patches has, too. Also recorded in the fibers of the jeans is the progression of my skills and knowledge of mending, in the frayed edges of the older patches and the clean stitches of the most recent addition. Lastly, my love for these pants is also shown through the variety of patches that I’ve chosen to affix to them.

My name is Ellie Zdancewic and I am a sophomore at Smith College and Student Design Partner at the Design Thinking Initiative makerspace. After falling in love with embroidery in high school, I started a small virtual fiber arts club for Philadelphia teenagers to stay connected during the pandemic. After returning to in person school, I, and two members of my fiber arts club, received a grant from the Youth Climate Advocacy organization, GreenAllies, to teach a series of free embroidery and crochet workshops at museums and community art spaces in Philly. My senior year of high school I briefly interned with local Philly crochet artist, Nicole Nikolich helping her install an exhibit at the Philadelphia International Airport and learning tapestry crochet techniques. My artwork, which I began during this internship, is a 12-color tapestry crochet piece, inspired by a view of Harriman Reservoir in Vermont.

My name is Erica Li & @the.mobius.stitch) and I am a fourth year at Smith College majoring in Environmental Science and Policy as well as a Studio Design Partner at the Design Thinking Initiative makerspace! I’ve been doing fiber arts since second grade when I learned how to knit in my afterschool program. I often use fiber arts to design functionality in my life and the lives of those I love, imbuing care into those used objects and exploring new textures and techniques. This crocheted piece is an iteration of rice-stuffed amigurumi heating pads for easing aches and pains. The woven pieces are a medium exploration with creative reuse of a bead loom.
