The Academy of Music Theatre invites you to join the cast of our 2027 Winter Youth Musical Production: DISNEY’S Newsies JR!

There are 2 separate sessions/casts for Newsies JR. 

Mon/Wed Session and Tues/Thurs Session. 

Both sessions rehearse January through March on different days of the week, and will each have two performances the weekend of March 25 – 27, 2027. The cast / program that you register for is the cast that you will rehearse and perform with. Swapping/Trading casts and or performances with other participants will NOT be allowed. You must commit and be available for the cast session that you register for. 

This program is open to performers between the ages of 9 and 16 of all experience levels in performance! This production will be a fast-paced rehearsal process aimed to develop and grow skills of artistic expression, self-confidence, and collaborative teamwork in theatre arts. 

  • Registration opens September 14, 2026 @10AM  
  • Ages 9 – 16 
  • Must be at least the age of 9 prior to the start of the program.
  • Rehearsals 5pm – 7:00pm  (Mon/Wed OR Tues/Thurs depending which cast you register for.)
  • December 28, 2026 – March 27, 2027
  • Performances March 25 – 27
  • $460 Total Tuition + Fees

    • March 24 Rehearsal will be from 4:30pm – 7pm

Financial Information

    • Tuition of $445 + $15 registration fee = $460 total cost for the program. 
    • Tuition helps cover costs of props and costumes and hiring professional artists to direct and design for this show. The cost of a cast T-Shirt is also included in tuition. 
  • $15 Registration Fee covers Academy of Music administration and production costs prior to rehearsals, as well as any processing and convenience provided by Studio Pro. 
  • Full tuition is due at the time of registration through Dance Studio Pro. 
  • Refund Protocol: The $15 registration fee in addition to 50% of tuition ($222.50) is considered a deposit to claim your spot and is non-refundable. 
  • No refunds will be given after December 18, 2026. 

Registration 

    • Registration will go live on September 14,  2026. @ 10AM  
    • Registration is through Studio Pro. You will need to create an account for you and your child to register.
    • A Parent/Student Forms Packet will be emailed to you prior to rehearsals beginning. Please review, sign, and return all of its contents before the audition. 
    • All who register will be cast in the show.
  • Spots fill up quickly, so don’t wait!
  • If registration is full you can still sign up for the wait list in case a spot opens up for you. 
    • You will be notified via email if a spot opens for you.

Auditions

  • Auditions for both casts will take place in the morning of December 28, 2026. Specific times and details will be sent after registration. 
  • If you are unavailable to audition in person on December 28, please contact education@aomtheatre.com to set up a video audition or make other arrangements. 
    • Video auditions will be due by December 23, 2026. 
  • In auditions you will learn a short dance combo and perform a one minute solo vocal audition. 
  • **Everyone who is registered will be cast in the show**

Vocal Audition

  • Please prepare to sing a 1 minute audition cut of a Musical Theatre song in the style of the show.  
  • Prepare to sing with a karaoke track that you’ve practiced with. 
  • Karaoke tracks can be readily found on YouTube, Apple Music, and Spotify. Please no tracks with voices. 
  • You can bring this ready to go on your own device, or you can send it in advance to education@aomtheatre.com. 
  • There will be no live pianist for this audition.

Dance Audition

  • Dance auditions will happen during your audition group time. 
  • You will be taught a short combination of dance and perform it for the directing team. 
  • Come wearing appropriate attire  for dance with your hair pulled back out of your face. 
  • Come to the audition with your body warmed up and ready to move and dance.

Callbacks

  • Everyone who is registered and auditions will receive a callback time as well. 
  • Callbacks will take place in the morning / early afternoon of Saturday January 2, 2027.
  • Callback times are assigned at random. Let us know if there are windows of time you cannot make for Saturday January 2 between 9am and 5pm.
  • Callback material will be sent out after auditions. (A short section of a song or dialogue from the show.) 
  • Students are asked to learn and prepare their callback material to the best of their ability prior to their callback time. There won’t be time to learn the material in the callback itself.
  • Callbacks will be in short sessions with the cast member and the directing team.
  • In the callback sessions the student will perform the callback material that they were asked to prepare. 
  • Please notify in advance if you are not available for callbacks on January 3rd so we can make other arrangements.
  • A cast list will be sent via email before the first rehearsal.  

Rehearsals

    • Rehearsals take place from 5:00pm – 7:00pm.
    • Most rehearsals will be at the Academy of Music Theatre in Northampton, though some may be held at another nearby location. Specific dates will be shared in advance. 
    • **Not everyone will be needed and called to all rehearsals.**
    • A detailed rehearsal calendar will be shared after auditions based on the conflicts you have shared prior to rehearsals starting. (Conflict calendar is part of the Parent/Student Forms Packet).
    • ***Everyone who registers must be able to attend at least the majority of all rehearsals, and be available for all rehearsals the last three weeks of the program (March 8 – March 27, 2027)
  • Swapping/Trading casts/performances with other participants will not be allowed. You must commit and be available for the cast session that you register for. 
  • **Missing rehearsals may result in not being in certain songs and scenes or having certain parts reassigned/recast at the discretion of the directing team. We want everyone to have as much stage-time as possible, but there isn’t enough time in the process to always be able to re-teach material that is missed. Thank you for understanding.

    A new 30-minute musical! Follow Katie and her puppet pal, Pinocchio, as they journey to the Harvest Festival and along the way meet new pals and learn what it is to be a “real friend”.  

    REHEARSALS TUESDAYS & THURSDAYS

    This production is open to kids ages 6 – 9 of any level of experience in performing arts. This process is focused towards younger ages to have an introductory experience in the joys and development of skills that come with being in a musical theatre production. 

    • Registration opens July 6, 2026 @10AM  
    • Ages 6 – 10 
    • Must be at least the age of 6 prior to the start of the program.
    • Rehearsals Tuesdays & Thursdays 5pm – 6:30pm

    • Many rehearsals are located at the Academy of Music in Northampton with some rehearsals being held at other nearby locations. 
    • ​Everyone who registers should be available for at least the majority of rehearsals, and MUST be able to attend all rehearsals in the final two weeks and the performance itself. 
    • Missing rehearsals may result in not being in certain songs and scenes. We want everyone to have as much stage-time as possible, but there isn’t enough time in the process to always be able to re-teach material that was missed. Thank you for understanding. 

    PERFORMANCE

    • October 23, 2026 
    • Kids called @5:00pm
    • Show starts @6:00pm  

    AUDITIONS

    • September 1 – In rehearsal the kids will all learn a group dance and a short singing solo during the first rehearsal. (This audition cut will be shared in advance). 
    • September 3 – All of the kids will perform the dance learned on the 1st and sing the audition cut in small groups.
      • Kids will be invited to step forward and sing the audition cut on their own. 
      • Not everyone needs to sing the audition cut alone – it is to hear who is comfortable with having a solo singing role.   
      • Roles will be decided by the directing team after this rehearsal and shared to the cast via email before the next rehearsal that takes place on September 8.
    • Everyone who is registered will be cast in the show.  

    FINANCIAL INFO 

    • Tuition of $410 + $15 Registration Fee = $425 total cost for the program. 
    • Tuition helps cover costs of props and costume pieces, and also in hiring professional theatre artists and teachers to direct and design for this show. 
    • Cost of a show cast T-Shirt is included in tuition. All cast members will receive and perform the show in their show T-Shirt. 
    • $15 Registration Fee covers Academy of Music administration and production costs prior to rehearsals, as well as any processing and convenience provided by Dance Studio Pro. 
    • Full tuition is due at the time of registration through Studio Pro. 
    • Refund Policy: The $15 registration fee in addition to 50% of tuition ($205) is considered a deposit to claim your spot and is non-refundable.

    REHEARSALS MONDAYS AND WEDNESDAYS 

    This program is open to performers between the ages of 11 and 17 interested in a fast-paced rehearsal process aimed to develop and grow skills of artistic expression, self-confidence, and collaborative teamwork in theatre arts. 

    NOTE: While this version of Beetlejuice has been adapted from the full-length Broadway musical for younger performers, the story of Beetlejuice still involves some more mature themes and musical numbers. It is recommended to familiarize yourself with the source material and the JR adaptation of the musical before registering to decide if you and your teenager are comfortable with its content. The script will be performed as written and licensed by MTI with no further changes made by the Academy of Music.
