Valley Light Opera presents Fiddler on the Roof, with a large cast, exciting choreography, a full orchestra, and stunning sets and costumes.
The story centers on Tevye, a milkman in the fictional village of Anatevka, who wants to maintain his Jewish traditions as his daughter’s preferences for husbands and the changing political landscape in the Pale Settlement of 1905 challenge his beliefs and impact his family and community.
Fiddler on the Roof is a perennially powerful musical about the exquisite joys and devastating sadnesses of daily life. Its lasting power as a piece of theatre comes from the loveable, familiar characters and their recognizable experiences that resonate with audiences of all ages. Fiddler uplifts how the people of Anatevka (like so many people around the world and throughout history) pursue life’s joys – love, family, and freedom – in the face of great sorrows. There is so much humor and love among the people of Anatevka, and their joyful moments contrast the pain of their exile from their home.
The matinee pre-show talks will be given by Joshua Horowitz of the Yiddish Book Center, about Sholem Aleichem and the adaptations of his Tevye stories that came before Fiddler on the Roof.
