Resident Companies

As the premier presenter of community-based performing arts, the Academy of Music spotlight falls in equal measure on area performers and international greats. The Academy has established relationships with a stable of area art organizations that have a history presenting at the theater. Artists grace the stage to perform ballet, orchestra, opera and dramatic productions.

Pioneer Valley Ballet

The mission of Pioneer Valley Ballet is to foster an appreciation of dance on a regional level for local audiences, to give dedicated young dancers the opportunity to perform at a pre-professional level and to provide all children the opportunity to experience the joys of movement and music through the study of classical ballet. Signature Sounds

Signature Sounds Recordings was formed by Jim Olsen and Mark Thayer in 1995 to promote the burgeoning acoustic music scene in and around Northampton, MA. Since our inception, we’ve released over 50 albums of singer-songwriter, Americana and modern folk music. Signature Sounds Recordings are distributed exclusively in the U.S. by E1 Entertainment. Our recordings are also available in Canada through True North Records and throughout the UK and Europe by Continental Record Services (CRS). The Signature Sounds Recording Studio was founded in 1982 by Mark Thayer. It has become the studio of choice for many performers in the acoustic and jazz music worlds.

Valley Light Opera

The Valley Light Opera, Inc., based in Amherst, is a nonprofit Massachusetts corporation founded in 1975 by a group of Gilbert and Sullivan devotees. The VLO promotes broad participation and produces fine entertainment. We present a fully staged opera in the fall of each year, and less formal productions in the late winter or early spring. Over the years, the Valley Light Opera has produced all fourteen of the G&S operas as well as Cox and Box, The Zoo, The Rose of Persia, The Chieftain, The Emerald Isle, The Beauty Stone, and Sullivan’s oratorio The Prodigal Son. In addition, VLO has performed Rudolf Friml’s The Vagabond King, Franz Lehár’s The Merry Widow, Jacques Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld, John Philip Sousa’s El Capitan, and Warren Martin’s The True Story of Cinderella.
