The Academy of Music

Education Programs

Theatre classes, shows, and performing arts programs for youth ages 6-18.

Let your child take center stage!

At the Academy of Music, our Education Programs are designed to inspire creativity, build confidence, and foster a strong sense of community in young people. Through Academy Youth Productions, kids experience the magic of putting on a full-scale show — from auditions to curtain call — in a fun, supportive environment. Our musical theatre classes and workshops offer hands-on learning in acting, movement, voice, and more, helping students build valuable life skills both on and off the stage.

For youth writers and performers, the Academy Regional Youth Poetry Slam empowers teens from the Pioneer Valley to find their voice, share their stories, and connect with peers in a celebration of self-expression.

Whether your child is new to the stage or ready for their next creative challenge, our programs offer a welcoming space to grow, explore, and shine!

Classes and Workshops

Do you want to learn more about the theatre and meet other kids who love musicals too? Step into the spotlight in our classes and workshops, where kids and teens get to experience the thrill of musical theatre in immersive programs! Whether they’re new to the stage or seasoned performers, we offer many opportunities to dive into the world of singing, dancing, and acting.

Plus, it’s a healthy break from screens! They’ll be singing, dancing, and moving—sweating and having a blast!

Youth Productions

Experience the magic of putting on a full-scale theatrical production — from the excitement of auditions to the thrill of performing under the lights on a historic stage. Along the way, they learn lines, songs, choreography, and teamwork, all in a fun, supportive environment that celebrates creativity, collaboration, and personal growth.

Build confidence, make friends, and discover the joy of live performance.

Youth Poetry Slam

For young writers and performers, the Academy Regional Youth Poetry Slam is a competition and a platform for teens to find their voice, share their stories, and speak their truth. Through workshops, peer connection, and live performance opportunities, participants build confidence, develop their craft, and explore the power of language.

This dynamic program fosters emotional wellness, creativity, and community, offering teens a safe and inspiring space to be heard and celebrated.

What families are saying.

I loved seeing [my child] build confidence in themself— I could tell that the positive coaching meant a lot to them.

Parent of Youth in Matilda JR

It was well organized and [I loved] watching the kids work on a project from start to finish! It is awesome hearing my child say how much fun she had and sad that it was over!!

I enjoyed seeing my kiddo step outside of his comfort zone in a supportive environment.

Summer Workshop FAQ’S

Are there spots available for Summer Workshops 2025?

For ages 12+: Yes! As of May 28th, there are spots available for ages 12 – 17 in “Encore!” And “Auditioning for Musical Theatre”.

For ages 6 – 11: No, all of these summer programs are full.

How do I register?

  1. Visit https://app.gostudiopro.com/online/aomyp
  2. Log in or create an account for you (the parent) and create a profile for your child.
  3. Once logged in, on the left side of your dashboard click “Register”
  4. Under “Summer 2025” you’ll find the workshops available for your child’s age group.

Can I join a waiting list for First Act / Second Act?

Yes! You can join the waiting list with your Studio Pro account through the registration program. If a spot opens up you will be notified via email.

Is there any way to move off the waiting list and into the class/workshop?

The order of the waiting list is automatically determined by the date and time your child’s name was added to it. The only way to move off the waiting list is if one of the registered participants drops out. Then the first on the list will be offered the newly available spot.

I don’t see this class/workshop listed for my kid?

The system automatically filters your registration options based on your child’s age. It’s most likely because your child is not the age eligible for that particular program.

Note that the age cutoff for the summer workshops is June 1st.

Can my child join a different program that is outside of their age range? (“They’re 9, can they join the 12 year olds?”)

No.

Exceptions to the age requirements are usually only made for a child whose birthday is very close to the age cutoff date. (Example, the cutoff is June 1st, and their birthday is on June 2nd)

I want to drop out of a summer workshop. Can I get a refund?

  • 50% of tuition + the $15 registration fee is a deposit that claims your spot and is non-refundable.
  • You can receive a partial refund if you drop out 4 weeks or more in advance of your program’s starting date.
  • No refunds will be given after 4 weeks prior to the program’s starting date.

Do we need to fill out any forms for the workshop?

  • Yes. Forms will be sent out near the program’s starting date. (There will be a T-Shirt size form, and general parent/health/safety info).
  • You do not need to worry about a signature from your child’s physician.
